BSE 326 – Engineering with Incompressible Fluids

3 credit hour(s)

An introduction to incompressible fluid mechanics that includes: fluid statics, the Bernoulli Equation, complex laminar and turbulent flow in piped networks, flow over immersed bodies, open channel flow, pump theory and sizing, and flow monitoring for application to ecological, agricultural, and environmental situations.
(RE) Prerequisite(s) : EF 152*, MATH 241.

Fundamentals of power delivery systems and simple mechanisms; selection and design of mechanical, hydraulic, and tractive power transmission systems. Emphasis on off-road vehicles and bioprocessing systems.

BSE 417 – Honors: Mechanical Systems Engineering

Honors version of BSE 411 that requires an additional honors component.

BSE 475 – Applied Mechatronic and Robotic Systems

Design of electromechanical solutions for automation. Integration of sensors, actuators, and microcontrollers as a system and its validation.  Design and development of automated platform, embedded system, and automated toolbox. Unmanned ground systems. Engineering team project. Contact Hours Distribution: 2 hours lecture and 2 hour lab Credit Restriction: May not receive credit for both BSE 475 and BSE 575

BSE 475 – Applied Mechatronic and Robotic Systems

BSE 511 – Mechanical Systems Engineering

3 credit hour(s)

Fundamentals of power delivery systems and simple mechanisms; selection and design of mechanical, hydraulic, and tractive power transmission systems. Emphasis on off-road vehicles and bioprocessing systems. Credit Restriction: students cannot receive credit for both 411 and 511.
Recommended Background: undergraduate engineering coursework in statics, dynamics, and mechanics of materials. Registration Restriction: Minimum student level – graduate.

BSE 530 – Research Problems in Biosystems Engineering

1 – 3 credit hours

Theoretical and experimental studies relating to current problems in biosystems engineering.

Repeatability: May be repeated. Maximum 6 hours.

BSE 575 – Mechatronic and Robotic Systems

3 credit hour(s)

Design of electromechanical solutions for automation. Integration of sensors, actuators, and microcontrollers as a system and its validation. Design and development of automated platform, embedded system, and automated toolbox. Unmanned ground systems. Engineering team project. Credit Restriction(s): Students cannot receive credit for both BSE 475 and BSE 575.
Recommended Background: Proficiency in electronics / instrumentation and mechanical systems.
Registration Restriction(s): Minimum student level – graduate.
